Jake Savala's Priorities

PUBLIC SAFETY SHOULDN'T DEPEND ON YOUR ZIP CODE.

Jake spent years serving Colorado Springs as a firefighter.

He understands public safety from experience, not talking points.

Colorado Springs continues to grow, and Jake believes police, fire, emergency medical services and other critical infrastructure must grow with it.

Residents should not have to accept slower response times simply because their neighborhood is farther from existing stations or because city planning failed to anticipate growth.

As a councilmember, Jake will use City Council's budget, legislative and oversight authority to demand measurable public safety performance throughout Colorado Springs.

FIRE & EMS RESPONSE

When someone's home is burning or a family member stops breathing, minutes matter.

Jake will push for staffing, stations, apparatus and deployment strategies based on actual call volume, development patterns and risk.

He believes City Council should ask a basic question when approving new development:

Can our emergency services protect the people who will live there?

Citizens must have access to a fair and transparent process when they believe their rights have been violated, while officers should receive fair treatment when allegations are made.

Jake looks forward to implementing and being the council member in charge of a revised Law Enforcement Accountability and Transparency Commission (LETAC).

AMBULANCE ACCOUNTABILITY

Residents who call 911 deserve confidence that an ambulance will arrive when promised.

Jake believes the city must rigorously enforce ambulance performance requirements and demand transparency whenever response standards are missed.

Contracts should mean something.

If taxpayers and patients are paying for a specified level of emergency service, the city should hold providers accountable for delivering it.

Jake has personally experienced emergency response from both sides: as a firefighter answering calls and later as someone whose own life depended on emergency care.

He understands what is at stake.

POLICE STAFFING & RESOURCES

Colorado Springs police officers are being asked to protect a growing population across an expanding city.

Jake supports providing officers with appropriate staffing, training and resources while also demanding professionalism and accountability.

He rejects the idea that residents must choose between supporting police and holding government accountable.

We can do both.

POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY

Jake believes public trust is essential to effective policing.

Citizens should have access to a fair and transparent process when they believe their rights have been violated, while officers should receive fair treatment when allegations are made against them.

Jake's own interactions with the system have convinced him that stronger transparency and oversight can protect both citizens and good officers.

Accountability should never depend on who you are.

The same standard should apply to everyone.

HUMAN & SEX TRAFFICKING

Human trafficking does not stop at the Colorado Springs city limits.

Jake supports aggressive enforcement against criminal enterprises involved in trafficking and exploitation.

He will push for greater coordination among law enforcement, specialized units and community organizations working directly with victims.

The goal must be twofold:
Stop traffickers
Help victims escape exploitation.

ILLEGAL MASSAGE BUSINESSES

Colorado Springs already has laws regulating massage businesses.

Jake believes those laws should be enforced.

Businesses operating illegally or serving as fronts for trafficking and exploitation should face investigation and appropriate enforcement.

At the same time, trafficking victims should be treated as victims and connected with resources that can help them rebuild their lives.

Passing laws means little if City Hall refuses to enforce them.

PROTECTING CHILDREN

Passing laws means little if City Hall and CSPD's management refuses to enforce them.

Parents should be able to take their children to parks, schools and neighborhood gathering places without government ignoring foreseeable safety risks.

Jake will introduce the most historic ordinance in city history to protect our kids. This ordinance will restrict where registered sex offenders can work, congregate and reside.

Protecting children should never become an afterthought.
